Growing in Faith

04-16-2017Weekly ReflectionFr. Chad King

My brothers and sisters in Christ,

Happy Easter! What a glorious time this is. Our Lord, out oflove for each and every one of us, gave up his life for our sake, for our salvation, because that is what love does, it sacrificesand gives all for the one it loves. Christ has destroyed eternaldeath and we are not held bound anymore, because of whatthe Lord has done, now the death that we deserve because ofour sin is only temporary and not eternal. Our Lord has madeeternal life possible, but to attain what the Lord has made forus we must die to ourselves and live for Him. To die to ourselvesmeans that we are to die to our own selfish desires and seek to serve others, it means to worktowards detaching ourselves from sinful pleasures. To live for God means that we take time everyday in prayer and surrender our plans and desires, and we invite Him into every aspect of our lives, asking Him to take control so that His will can be done in our lives.

God desires that the eternal life—the freedom and joy He gives—is to begin and grow here inthis life on earth and come to completion in Heaven. That is what happened at our baptism andwhat we renew in Lent and especially at Easter; we promise to do our best to stop sinning and striveto live a new life in God every day. Therefore, Easter is a great time for us to reflect on how we aregrowing and how we still need to grow in living the new life God gives us here and now. We allhave so many things we are trying to juggle in our lives, but God promises that if we put Him first, then everything else will be ordered rightly. We should surrender our anxieties and worries everyday in prayer to Him, come to learn His voice, and let Him lead and guide us every day of our lives. If we do, then we will begin to experience his love more and more in our lives. God has so muchpeace, joy, and love that He wants to give us, beginning here in this life, and all the way to eternallife through growing in faith and absolute confidence of His love and providence for us.

The Church, and in particular, Corpus Christi Catholic Church, wants to help you attain this lifeof peace, joy and love on earth in preparation for the life to come and to grow in faith andknowledge of God’s love. Deepening and growing in our prayer and formation in the faith is a life-long daily journey because there is so much depth and richness in our faith. We must strive toremain in communion with God’s love all the days of our lives.
