Please allow me to be a little direct about something that has been on my heart recently.

03-04-2018Weekly ReflectionFr. Chad King

I have noticed that there are some parishioners who leave Mass right after Communion or get up and leave right before the announcements. Now I understand some people might have another important obligation that they must get to on occasion, but this should not be a regular occurrence. Attending the entire Liturgy is very important. First, Holy Communion is about communion, about unity. We are one family. When we have just received our Lord in the Body and Blood, it is important that we allow time for reflection and for God to speak. We should do this together "in communion" with our parish family.

Secondly, it saddens me when people leave early because they miss the final blessing from myself or other priests. The final blessing is actually a sending. We are sent, with a blessing, to go out "to love and serve the Lord." Other people tend to get up and leave right before the announcements. To these people, I politely ask you to think about: If you were at a big family dinner (which every Mass is) would you get up and leave right after you were finished eating? Probably not. Most likely you would politely stay until everyone was finished and probably even continue conversing with your family members. Even if the conversation might not pertain directly to you, you would stay because you want to catch up with your family members and find out what is happening in their lives. I want every parishioner to feel that we are a family of families when they come to Corpus Christi. In fact, the purpose of the coffee and donuts ministry is to help facilitate that the family interaction. Finally, for those who do stay and interact together as a family, I want to say a heart-felt THANK YOU for doing your part to make this family what it is and what we are becoming.
