God is so good! Part II

04-10-2016Weekly ReflectionFr. Chad King

Last week I revealed some of what God had done in those who were able to attend the Discovering Christ series. Today I want to share with you some of the testimonies of those who came to the Parish Mission that was held March 14th-17th. I share these as a way to perhaps inspire us to desire and grow closer to God all the more, because when I hear what God is doing in the lives of others I am certainly inspired to want that too. Additionally, when we desire God more and take steps to grow closer to Him, such as attending a Parish Mission, God is faithful in meeting that desire in some way.

"The Sunday before the mission started, Deacon Keith approached me to let me know that the Holy Spirit had pointed me out as someone he needed to speak with regarding where I was and how I was feeling, physically, emotionally and spiritually. He let me know that the Lord wanted to reveal things to me and heal me if I needed it. I wasn't quite sure what that meant and it made me a little bit nervous. He reminded me that I was blessed with gifts at baptism and that God wanted me to embrace and remember these gifts. With that, he invited me to attend the mission to see if I found what I was looking for there. I attended all four nights of the mission, but had a particularly moving experience on the third night. It happened to be that my immediate family was all present and even my godmother and aunt had decided to attend. With my family there, Deacon Keith prayed over me, particularly for emotional healing to let go of insecurities that follow me and anxiety that often cripples me. During this prayer, I was overwhelmed with warmth, but my hands were freezing cold while my family laid their hands on me accompanying me in prayer to leave behind these negative thoughts and emotions. I now realize how those feelings had sometimes pushed me away from the Lord. Then there was a moment during prayer where I still cannot identify a voice, or how, but I received a very clear message saying "now you can do what I have created you for." I felt instantly lighter and I laughed during the prayer because I was overcome with joy, but a joy that was pure and without the stress of worry or anxiousness. I felt loved and cared for by my Heavenly Father and I could physically feel his embrace. For the past few years, I have been on a journey to know God more deeply, to be in relationship with his Son more closely and allow the Holy Spirit to work in and through me. Through this prayer and reflection for emotional and spiritual healing, I realized that I stand in my own way on this journey toward Christ. The negativity, such as thoughts of unworthiness, guilt, isolation and self-deprecation are not from God. He wants me to feel His embrace always because I am worth his love and mercy and he desires for me to know Him in this way. Since the mission, I find myself more joyful and less restricted by anxiety, fear or nervousness. I smile more, but not just to hide my insecurities, but because I know in my heart that God loves ME, individually, and I am excited to more intentionally be the person he created me to be." —Anonymous

"About 5 months ago I was diagnosed with a heart arrhythmia (irregular heart beat). After several tests and different drug treatments, I was still not performing at 50%. For example, before this condition I was able to mountain hike 3-5 miles per day and run down my mountain. After this condition, I was not able to make it to the top of the mountain and the shortness of breath and fatigue were debilitating.

On Thursday afternoon (March 17) Deacon Keith prayed over me and asked the Holy Spirit to heal my heart condition. On Friday morning I attempted a long hike, something I have not been able to do for 4 months. I was able to hike 5.5 miles, up and down my mountain, without any adverse effects. No shortness of breath and no extreme exhaustion. PRAISE GOD!" —Maureen
