The Parish Library

09-11-2016Weekly ReflectionFr. Chad King

Did you know that we have a parish library?! Located in the Parish Office, it is usually open whenever the office is open. If you are interested in reading more to enhance your spiritual life, come check out some books! We have nearly a thousand books on a variety of topics. If you don't have a lot of time to read, but spend a lot of time in the car, we have CDs that can be checked out as well. The last time I went on a little vacation, I checked out St. Therese's Story of a Soul and St. Francis de Sales' Introduction to the Devout Life. Also, there is a Best of Catholic Answers Live CD set. Additionally, for those of you interested in our Called and Gifted workshop, we have two CD sets that are essential for you to be ready for the workshop, which starts in two weeks.

I want to highlight a few of the newest arrivals:

Mother Angelica - Her Grand Silence by Raymond Arroyo. You know Mother Angelica as the fiery nun who started EWTN and you might have heard the funny and sweet re-runs of her show on that network. They were re-runs because, for the past decade, Mother Angelica had been confined to bed with various health issues, beginning with a stroke. If you want to learn how to suffer with dignity and if you want to better understand why and how to live with suffering, then I encourage you to check this book out and be inspired by a humble woman who gave her life, and every ounce ofher suffering, for the good and salvation of souls.

I hope you are registered for the Apologetics Workshop on September 17th. In case you aren't able to make it, or if you are inspired and want to understand better how you can share the faith with others who don't believe in God, who are not Christian, or who are not Catholic, then we have many Apologetics books available. A new book we have is by one of the best, most compassionate Apologists — Patrick Madrid. He recently wrote How to do Apologetics - Making the Case for Our Faith, which gives some great and practical steps, along with some wonderfully inspiring stories of his own. If you don't have time to read a big book, but rather just want a quick read to understand more on a specific topic, there is an entire series of 20 Answers booklets put out by Catholic Answers. Topics include, but are not limited to: God, Salvation, Angels and Demons, Mary, Deathand Judgment, the Eucharist, and Divorce and Remarriage.

There are also a few new CDs and DVDs: From Creation to Catholic - the Story of Salvation History by Patrick Coffin and Trent Horn (also from Catholic Answers) as well as a series called Restoring Marriage Today, which is a highly important topic for all of us Catholics. Many of our brothers and sisters are swayed by our current culture regarding marriage, and it is our duty to know what to say in a loving and compassionate way. If you need a quick read, there is a smallbooklet called Scripture, Mercy, and Homosexuality that I recommend highly.

Finally, there is a DVD on the Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima. Just to give you a quick heads-up: Corpus Christi will be going on a pilgrimage to Fatima and Lourdes in October 2017 for the 100th Anniversary of Fatima. Watch the bulletin for more information, as we will open it up for registration soon and seats will go quickly.

I strongly encourage you to come and check out some books or CDs. The more we know ourfaith, the more we love our faith, and the happier we will be.
